In Case You Needed A Reminder: You Are Not Alone.

A few days ago, I had the honor of going live with my friend Kevin Bellack on 1000 Hours Dry for a coffee chat about sobriety and what we’ve learned along the way. Our conversation reminded me how important it is to reach out to people around you- either friends, family, people in your community, or friends you make online.

I remember feeling so alone when I first made the decision to eliminate alcohol from my life. It’s not easy to navigate sobriety in your twenties or feel like the odd one out for choosing not to drink. I was lucky enough to have support and encouragement from my family and friends but had kept it pretty much a secret from most people around me for the first 6 months.

It wasn't until I decided to start searching online for other people who chose not to drink that I realized I wasn't as alone as I thought. I had no idea that there were resources out there and people in the same position I was in who didn’t necessarily see themselves as an “addict” or resonate with AA or a typical recovery program.

A big part of what gave me the confidence to share my journey was having Alex McRobert, a fellow sober content creator, on my podcast last year. Hearing her story and perspective inspired me to open the dialogue around alcohol to my community, and sobriety has been a topic I've remained passionate about discussing ever since.

I never thought that ditching alcohol would change my entire life but I’m grateful for the growth I’ve experienced without alcohol in the equation. If you've made it this far I want you to know one thing: regardless of what you're going through, you are not alone. There are people out there who are willing and eager to help and guide you, all it takes is the courage to reach out.
